Great service, good store and really tasty food. Authentic Balkan cuisine

Balkan Cafe has incredible food. We got the Balkan burger for each of us and it’s huge! You could easily split it between 2 people. The patty they make is homemade as well as the bun. The bun was super crispy and tasty, and it tasted like sourdough bread. The owner is super nice and the food comes out quickly. We highly recommend this place if you’re stopping through Waterloo or are near the area!

Only been here once but enjoyed my meal. A rare opportunity to eat traditional Balkan type food in an authentic atmosphere in the Cedar Valley. If you enjoy trying new things and going off the beaten path then I highly recommend.

Food was on a limited menu, as many dishes were sold out due to popularity. We got the cevapi, the Burek, fries, onion rings, and drinks. The food was incredible. Everyone loved their food, particularly the bread they served everything on. Like pita bread, but slightly fried and delicious. The fries were the best I’ve had in 6-7 years. The drink selection were bottled drinks from across Europe. The drinks were unique and hard to find elsewhere. The owner was extremely friendly and explained the menu, which was helpful as we couldn’t pronounce anything. Cost was incredibly reasonable. Plus, they have a grocery in the restaurant with a decent range of hard to find European goods. Will be back again!

Balkan Cafe was a pleasant surprise! Delicious food and very fast service. Hidden gem of Waterloo. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed

Very good service pita and burek was so delicious definitely I will come back keep doing good job

This place was my introduction to authentic Bosnian food and it was a delicious and decadent experience. It is so amazing that Waterloo has such a gem in this town. I was recommended to go here by a Bosnian friend of mine in Cedar Rapids and I am so glad I listened. They have fresh items made in the morning like the Burke. It is so soft and savory. They also serve really good Turkish coffee. The searing is limited because of the small space but the vibes give you the “back home” type of feeling.

Wonderful lunch stop on our recent road trip - food was delicious!
